Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Truong Thang chairs a meeting of the Steering Committee for the Vietnam Defense Expo 2026 Project.

On the morning of April 8, in Hanoi, the Ministry of National Defense held a meeting of the Steering Committee for the Vietnam Defense Expo 2026 Project. Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Truong Thang, Member of the Party Central Committee and Deputy Minister of National Defense, presided over the meeting.

In attendance were Senior Lieutenant General Phung Si Tan, Deputy Chief of the General Staff, Deputy Head of the Steering Committee, and Head of the Expo Organizing Committee, as well as leaders from various functional agencies under the Ministry of National Defense.

The meeting announced the Decisions to establish the Project Steering Committee and the Organizing Committee for the Vietnam Defense Expo 2026. It emphasized the significance and necessity of hosting the expo, while proposing various options regarding the timing, venue, and scale of the event.

Speaking at the meeting, Senior Lieutenant General Phung Si Tan urged relevant agencies and units of the Ministry of National Defense to uphold their sense of responsibility and coordinate closely to develop and finalize the Project on schedule, meeting the set objectives. He also requested the General Department of Defense Industry - the Standing Agency of the Steering Committee, to report the list of products for display, with a priority on new, modern, and prominent exhibits.

Major General Phan Thi Hoai Van, Deputy Director of the General Department of Defense Industry, presented a report at the meeting.

This serves as an opportunity to showcase technological capabilities and Vietnamese-made weapons and equipment, as well as the contributions and continuous growth of Vietnam’s defense industry. These efforts contribute to building defense potential and national defense strength, fostering confidence among the people, the military, and the international community.

At the meeting, on behalf of the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Truong Thang recognized, commended, and highly appreciated the preparatory efforts of the General Department of Defense Industry and relevant agencies and units. He noted that within a short period, they had proactively and concertedly implemented the project's contents. He also requested that the Vietnam Defense Expo 2026 Project be integrated with the activities celebrating the Founding Day of the Vietnam People’s Army and the All-People Defense Festival to facilitate both organizational work and the reception of international guests.

Overview of the meeting

Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Truong Thang requested the Organizing Committee along with relevant agencies and units to strictly direct and implement the Project. He also called for the development of action plans, regular progress inspections of the subcommittees, and timely reporting in accordance with regulations. Furthermore, he urged the mobilization of all possible resources for promotion activities and the gradual socialization of the exhibition to eventually hold the event periodically using self-financing.

According to the plan, the Vietnam Defense Expo 2026 is scheduled to take place in December 2026 at Gia Lam Airport, Hanoi. This year’s expo continues to be identified by the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense as a key activity in defense diplomacy and international cooperation within the defense industry.
The successful organization of these expos contributes to affirming Vietnam's position and prestige in the international arena. At the same time, it arouses and spreads a sense of pride and responsibility among officers, soldiers, and the entire nation toward the cause of building and safeguarding the Fatherland.
