Training of Liaison Officers and Interpreters for Viet Nam Defence Expo 2024
On the morning of April 22nd in Hanoi, the opening ceremony of the training course for liaison officers and interpreters serving the Viet Nam Defence Expo 2024 took place.
The training was attended by a full complement of officers appointed as liaison officers and interpreters from various agencies and units under the Ministry of Defence, as well as military academies and schools. The lecturers are experienced officers currently working at the General Department of Defence Industry, the Department of Military Security Protection (General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army), and the Department of Foreign Relations under the Ministry of Defence.
Colonel Nguyen Duy Minh, Deputy Director of the Department of Foreign Relations, Ministry of Defence, and Head of the Reception Subcommittee of the Organizing Committee of the Viet Nam Defence Expo 2024, delivered the opening speech.
In his opening remarks, Colonel Nguyen Duy Minh stated that this is the second time the Ministry of Defence is organizing an international defence expo in Vietnam. This exhibition coincides with the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People’s Army and the 35th anniversary of the All-People National Defence Day, making it even more significant. It showcases the process of deep international integration, contributing to the promotion and enhancement of the country’s and the Army’s role on the international and regional stages.

The Viet Nam Defence Expo 2024 is expected to welcome many senior leaders from the Ministry of Defence, military forces from various continents, and numerous major defence industry enterprises and corporations worldwide to showcase their products. Therefore, the organization must reflect the image of a peaceful, developing Vietnam rich in cultural identity, hospitality, and friendliness. The roles of reception and interpreting services for international delegations are crucial, significantly contributing to the exhibition's success.
During this training session, trainees were introduced to an overview of the Viet Nam Defence Expo 2024, its significance for the country’s and the Army’s foreign affairs activities. Trainees were also briefed on general regulations for ensuring security and safety, coordination of liaison officers and interpreters with the forces responsible for security, key points in reception services, the duties of liaison officers, and experience in handling situations.

This is a valuable opportunity for liaison officers and interpreters to access fundamental and practical content, combined with experience from the first Viet Nam Defence Expo in 2022. Colonel Nguyen Duy Minh urged the trainees to maximize their time and focus on the content, actively engage in discussions to grasp the issues better, and apply the knowledge and understanding gained to perform their duties at the Viet Nam Defence Expo 2024. He also encouraged the lecturers to use their knowledge and experience to impart useful skills and knowledge to the trainees for their work.
